That day in September 2012 was the most unfortunate day in my life. In 2012 my husband and I wanted to have a baby. Because of my healthy problem, we decided to have a tube baby. While I did the routine physical examination before the surgery, I also had a biopsy incidentally. However, its result scared me, I was told having adenocarcinoma of endometrium, which meant there was no hope of the baby any more. Both my husband and I felt very sad about this news. Then I went to Malaysian hospital for treatment, where doctors advised me to cut off the uterus. It was really hard for my husband and I made the decision. Finally I agreed to accept the surgery, which meant I would never get pregnant any more. My husband kept comforting me that it was my health which counts. He said we can have baby after I recover. Anyway, there were still many other ways for us to get a baby.
I thought I have got away from cancer after the surgery; however, three months passed the surgical wound still didn’t heal. What’s worse, tumors grew again at the surgical site. In December 2012, I had no choice but accept a second surgery to remove the tumors as doctor suggested. Then in January I had chemotherapy.
As days went by, in the next one year everything seemed all right with me. However, in June 2014, my surgical site began to feel great pain. This time, some friends I knew in Indonesia suggested me to go to Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou for treatment. Then I remembered when I was still in Malaysia, some patients have also said the same thing to me, so I decided to take their advice. By the end of July 2014, I was already in Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou. I was very sick at that movement. Apart from severe abdominal pain, I had bowel movement four times per day. Diagnostic result showed there were recurrence as well as metastases to my liver and pelvic cavity.
Soon doctors in Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou worked out an integrative treatment plan for me. During the treatment, I received totally six times of chemotherapy, six times of interventional therapy and one cryotherapy. Since doctors have explained the possible responses to me before the treatment, I was ready to take the challenge. Actually I found nothing serious but a little bit of nausea and vomiting. When hair began to lose after the chemotherapy, I wore a hat to solve this problem. My doctor also told me that the hair would grow again after the treatment, so I did not worry about it at all. Compared with my hair, good curative effect was more important.
After those treatments, I could feel that something in my body has changed. I gained some weight during my hospitalization. The abdominal pain disappeared at the end of the first month. The course of treatment was also much shorter than that in Malaysia. In Malaysia there was no interventional therapy but only chemotherapy. When I had treatment here, I had to rent a house outside the hospital to stay. In Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, I was an inpatient and doctors kept an eye on me. For example, they could deal with my nausea and vomiting at the very first time.
When I first got cancer, I was told to avoid a list of foods. However, in Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, I found there were plenty of choices for me, according to my doctors. There was a self-catering kitchen where I can cook by myself. Although it was hard to make authentic Indonesian cuisines, it was also very good.
Now I feel I have more strength than before. I hope I will recover soon and there will be no recurrence any more. As Christmas 2014 is coming, I wish all patients like me would keep on fighting. You will recover when you believe.
*Surgery, in addition to the appropriate chemotherapy and radiotherapy, are effective in treating early cancer, but certain patients in late stage of cancer may not be tolerate surgery well as they can be relatively weak. A combination of carefully planned minimally invasive therapy, chemotherapy or radiotherapy can effectively reduce the side effects and discomfort of treatment and may help patient get better efficacy.
