Why Choose Minimally Invasive Treatment?
Surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy are common treatments for ovarian cancer. While these traditional methods kill cancer cells, they may also damage healthy tissues and cause side effects. With advancements in medical technology, minimally invasive treatments have emerged as a new hope for ovarian cancer patients.
Surgery
Radiotherapy
Chemotherapy
Side Effects
Postoperative pain
Skin irritation (e.g., redness, dryness)
Nausea and vomiting
Risk of infection at the surgical site
Fatigue
Loss of appetite
Bleeding or poor wound healing
Nausea and vomiting
Fatigue
Organ dysfunction (e.g., bladder/bowel)
Diarrhea or bowel issues
Hair loss
Loss of fertility (if ovaries/uterus removed)
Long-term risks (e.g., secondary cancer)
Immune suppression (higher infection risk)
Reproductive system damage (infertility)
Mouth ulcers
Neuropathy (e.g., numbness)
Minimally invasive treatment is a therapeutic approach that achieves medical outcomes by minimizing physical trauma. It utilizes small incisions or natural body orifices, employing instruments such as endoscopes and catheters to perform surgical procedures or therapies, thereby reducing bodily damage. Ovarian cancer patients who demonstrate poor response to conventional treatments, are inoperable, or experience recurrence and metastasis may prioritize minimally invasive treatment as an option. Compared to traditional surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, minimally invasive treatment offers the following advantages:
Advantages
Details
Less Trauma
Tiny incisions (a few millimeters) reduce tissue damage.
Less bleeding, reducing transfusion needs.
Faster Recovery
Shorter hospital stays and quicker return to daily activities.
Lower risk of postoperative complications.
Less Pain
Reduced need for painkillers
Cases of Ovarian Cancer Patients in Our Hospital
Many ovarian cancer patients choose our hospital for minimally invasive comprehensive treatment. Our MDT will develop corresponding treatment plans based on the patient's personal physical condition. The following are several patients' sharing about their treatment process. After minimally invasive treatment, they were successfully discharged from the hospital and returned to normal life.
Ovarian Cancer Patient from Indonesia: Winda
Winda, a Stage IV ovarian cancer patient from Jakarta, Indonesia, was diagnosed with a 9cm tumor in her left ovary in June 2016. She underwent tumor resection surgery, but by December 2016, she began experiencing abdominal pain and physical discomfort again. Subsequent examinations revealed a 1.4 cm tumor in her pelvic lymph nodes. In January 2017, she was diagnosed with recurrent left ovarian cancer (stage IV) with mediastinal and subclavian lymph node metastases.
When Winda arrived at Guangzhou Modern Cancer Hospital, she was extremely weak. The hospital’s MDT team developed a treatment plan combining minimally invasive interventional therapy and natural therapy, avoiding uterus removal and preserving ovarian function. After three sessions of interventional therapy, the pelvic lymph node tumor completely disappeared. Following doctors’ advice, she adopted healthy dietary and exercise habits and later gave birth to a healthy, adorable baby.
Malaysian Ovarian Cancer Patient: Ms. Beh
In 2023, Ms. Beh, a 30-year-old woman, began experiencing frequent abdominal bloating and was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Determined to act quickly, she underwent surgery in Malaysia to remove her left fallopian tube and ovary, followed by six rounds of systemic chemotherapy. By June 2024, she developed rectal bleeding, and a colonoscopy revealed cancer spread to the rectum (an 8 cm lesion near the anus), cystic lesions in her remaining right ovary, and metastases to pelvic lymph nodes and both lungs. Local doctors advised removing all ovarian tissue, which would render her infertile.
On August 2, 2024, Ms. Beh and her mother sought treatment at Guangzhou Modern Cancer Hospital. The MDT team promptly designed an interventional therapy plan. After the second session, a CT scan showed significant shrinkage of the right ovarian lesion and cervical mass, with smaller lesions and pelvic lymph node metastases vanishing entirely. Her remaining ovary was preserved.
Indonesian Ovarian Cancer Patient: Nowiti
Nowiti, from Indonesia, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2019 and underwent a hysterectomy and bilateral oophorectomy at a local hospital. Despite postoperative chemotherapy, the cancer metastasized to multiple sites, and it locally recurred in 2023. Upon a friend’s recommendation, she came to Guangzhou Modern Cancer Hospital for minimally invasive treatment.
After two sessions of interventional therapy, Nowiti reported complete resolution of her symptoms. CT scans showed remarkable treatment efficacy, with tumors nearly undetectable. By March 2024, her tumor markers had normalized, and all lesions had completely disappeared.
