You and Me, Together on the Road of Fighting Against Cancer-International Volunteer Service Center of Belt and Road Holistic Integrative Oncology Training Base (Guangdong) of MCHG Sharing Session of Cancer Prevention and Treatments

On the afternoon of July 20, St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou held a cancer prevention and treatment sharing session titled "You and Me, Together on the Road of Fighting Against Cancer" at the International Volunteer Service Center of Belt and Road Holistic Integrative Oncology Training Base (Guangdong) of CACA, in the conference room on the ninth floor of the hospital. The aim of the sharing session is to enrich the life of patients and their families in the hospital, develop anti-cancer volunteers through oncology knowledge training and sharing, disseminate the positive energy of anti-cancer, and help more patients. And through the sharing of anti-cancer stars, patients can enhance their confidence in fighting cancer.

Ms. Liu Minghui, a breast cancer patient from Indonesia, shared her experience at St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou as the “Anti-Cancer Star Volunteer”.

Ms. Liu, an Indonesian Chinese, said she was introduced to St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou by her friend when she had a breast biopsy in Indonesia in early May this year, and now she has received 3 times of minimally invasive treatment in the hospital. The side effects of minimally invasive treatment are so minimal that when she returned to Indonesia after her treatments, her friends were surprised that her skin did not darken (traditional radiotherapy can darken the skin). Even though she had a fever after her first interventional therapy at the hospital, she was able to experience the hospital's excellent service with humane care. Ms. Liu said that she had to take her temperature every half an hour when she had a fever, but she was very touched by the excellent medical and nursing service in Ward 5, which was careful and considerate throughout the whole process, without any impatience. The hospital's Indonesian translation team also helped her a lot. At the sharing session, Ms. Liu even called out the names of each translator and praised them one by one. She said she felt fortunate to come to St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, and she always held a grateful heart, hoping the hospital would improve!

After the sharing, Ms. Liu Yansheng, Assistant Director of the International Affairs Department of St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, presented Liu Minghui with an honorary certificate and a gift to express her gratitude for her selfless sharing of the spirit of great love. It is also hoped that everyone here will spread this spirit of great love to benefit more tumor patients.

During the anti-cancer information session, the hospital's dietitian was invited to explain the importance of anti-tumor nutrition to the patients and their families. The dietitian's explanation helped clarify many misconceptions about the dietary needs of cancer patients. Following the explanation, the patients and their families had the opportunity to ask the dietitian questions about their daily challenges. To further educate the patients, the staff organized a fun nutritional knowledge quiz with prizes, which added to the relaxed and joyful atmosphere of the session.

To help patients and their families relax, fruits and snacks were prepared at the event. At the end of the activity, everyone enjoyed the food, chatted with each other, and patients who originally didn't know each other became close.

This is a small activity for Indonesian patients. Although the activity is small, the large activity site is full of mutual understanding and encouragement between people and the spirit of fighting cancer hand in hand. Helping every patient to overcome the disease and restore health is what St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou has been insisting on doing. We hope that every patient can build up the confidence of fighting cancer, spread the positive energy of fighting cancer, so that every patient can feel the love and warmth. We wish all our patients can be the positive and optimistic anti-cancer star.

*Surgery, in addition to the appropriate chemotherapy and radiotherapy, are effective in treating early cancer, but certain patients in late stage of cancer may not be tolerate surgery well as they can be relatively weak. A combination of carefully planned minimally invasive therapy, chemotherapy or radiotherapy can effectively reduce the side effects and discomfort of treatment and may help patient get better efficacy.
