Linear 125I Seeds Implantation Combined with Biliary Stent Insertion is an emerging effective treatment for bile duct cancer patients with obstructive jaundice, which can simultaneously treat biliary obstruction and bile duct tumors, bringing new hope for many bile duct cancer patients. Recently, doctors in Interventional Department of St.Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou have successfully completed one case of this operation.
Indonesian male bile duct cancer patient suffers obstructive jaundice caused by choledochal stenosis, presenting yellow skin and sclera for more than two months. In the first stage, PTCD drainage was performed on him to alleviate his Yellow symptoms. And the next step is to give further treatment on his tumors.
Before treatment, doctors in Interventional Department had a further consultation and discussion on his case and came to an agreement that mere biliary stent insertion can cure his Yellow symptoms but not his tumors, while the emerging linear 125I seeds implantation combined with biliary or portal vein stent insertion is capable of treating both.
After careful PTCD verification, doctors in Interventional Department decided to conduct biliary stent insertion combined with linear 125I seeds implantation on the patient to not cure his symptoms but his disease.
Although this operation is a kind of emerging business in recent years in domestic China hospitals and it is indeed an innovative try in our hospital, linear 125I seeds implantation combined with biliary or portal vein stent insertion is a very mature operation performed by the hospital. The doctors are confident to complete this operation successfully and cure the patient’s Yellow symptoms and get his tumor treated at the same time.
The operation was conducted accordingly, Zhen Yanli, Director of Interventional Department, personally worked with the entire operation. Compared with mere biliary or portal vein stent insertion or 125I seed implantation, this operation is much more complicate, but with the cooperation of medical team, doctors managed to complete the operation in an hour. The next step is to wait for the review results and observe the alleviation of his Yellow symptoms and control of his primary lesions.
This successful completion has increased an new effective treatment for malignant obstructive jaundice and portal vein obstruction and brought new hope for bile duct cancer patients. We sincerely hope that cancer patients treated with new treatment can restore their health and greatly appreciate doctors in Inteventional team of St.Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou for their perfect cooperation and innovation in saving patients’ life. We hope that our constant innovation and attempts can benefit more cancer patients.
*Surgery, in addition to the appropriate chemotherapy and radiotherapy, are effective in treating early cancer, but certain patients in late stage of cancer may not be tolerate surgery well as they can be relatively weak. A combination of carefully planned minimally invasive therapy, chemotherapy or radiotherapy can effectively reduce the side effects and discomfort of treatment and may help patient get better efficacy.
