On August 14, 2015, with the theme of “Hand in Hand, Away Cancer Goes”, the fourth volunteer training lecture on non-border tumor prevention and treatment was held in Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou. The oncologist Pan Luo gave a lecture on anticancer diet, which attracted attention from cancer patients and their families.

Magic tricks show for the patients and their families

Before the lecture, the staff of Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou performed magic tricks which made the patients and their families happy and relaxed. And then, the oncologist from Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou began the lecture. At first, Doctor Pan indicated the causes of cancer, including environment, diet, and organism factor. It was important for cancer patients to know about anticancer diet. Some food might worsen the condition, while some food could fight against cancer. Doctor Pan explained these in details, and combined with some specific cases to give suggestion to the patients. Besides, Doctor Pan said, “It is better to correct the wrong diet that causes cancer than to only focus on anticancer diet. There is no unified standard to judge the food good or bad. Different kinds of food have different nutrients. A healthy diet habit plays a significant role to prevent and fight against cancer.”

The patients and their families were listening to the lecture seriously.

The lecture aroused the audience’s interest. They listened to Doctor Pan seriously, noted down the information, and asked questions. Doctor Pan answered their questions and gave guidance to them patiently.

And then, Mrs. Nguyen, a Vietnamese writer, shared her experience of accompanying her sister to fight against cancer. She encouraged the patients and said, “Believe in the doctors and Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, then defeat cancer bravely.”

At last, the patients and their families all volunteered to become “Non-border Tumor Prevention and Treatment Volunteers” of Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, and were awarded the honorary credentials and scorecards which were used for exchanging medical service items in the hospital.

It was reported that this lecture series will be held in every Friday afternoon to spread cancer prevention and treatment knowledge and help more people know more about cancer.

*Surgery, in addition to the appropriate chemotherapy and radiotherapy, are effective in treating early cancer, but certain patients in late stage of cancer may not be tolerate surgery well as they can be relatively weak. A combination of carefully planned minimally invasive therapy, chemotherapy or radiotherapy can effectively reduce the side effects and discomfort of treatment and may help patient get better efficacy.
