New Weapons in Fighting Cancer-When there is CHOICE, there is HOPE!

In line with the uprising cases of cancer in the Philippines, both government authorities and citizens are greatly in concern to any developments and breakthroughs in cancer treatment. On August 24, 2013 Saturday, a Cancer Forum on New Treatment Modalities was held at Bohol Tropics Resort & Restaurant, Tagbilaran City 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, with the support of Governor of Bohol, Mayor of Tagbilaran, and other officials of the Local government.

Attendees of doctors, patients and citizens from different areas in Bohol came to join the Forum about latest breakthroughs in cancer treatment.

This forum was organized by Dra. Ma. Delia R. Maluenda, the Head-OBGYN Dept. of GCGMH, who happened to encounter such new medical breakthroughs in treating cancer in a less invasive way than the conventionally known modalities from the Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou in China. The highlights are latest proven effective cancer/tumor treatments and interventions which feature “Minimal Invasive Targeted Therapy Integrated with Combined Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine”.

The invited speaker, Dr. Xiaochi Peng, who is the Director of Oncology Department of Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, has finished Medicine courses both in Sun Yat Sen University and in Canada. He discussed about several advanced modalities, such as Interventional Therapy, Radioactive Seeds Implantation, Cryoablation and Radiofrequency Ablation, Gene Therapy, Bio-Immunotherapy, etc. These modalities are performed within a short period of time creating only needles punctures without big open wounds. Also, the patients will no longer be bed ridden after the procedure and the side effects shall be lowered to the least. Moreover, these modalities can be applied to advanced patients that can no longer undergo surgery, chemotherapy or other conventional treatments. Thus, such advance techniques will then be our newest weapons in fighting the most dreaded ailment-CANCER.

The introduction of such new modalities brought a warm round of applause from the audience. Attendees were amazed with the new technology and have thousands of questions in mind. After the lecture, certain time was allotted for open forum where they voiced out their inquiries and the expert shall answer them in the best possible way.

Mrs. Salazar, one of the Filipino patients residing in Bohol that has undergone some treatments in Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou also attended the Forum. She has experienced the services of the hospital and earned satisfying results. Currently, she is back to her work and in good condition to handle obstacles & challenges in work and serve the people well. She was glad that the new treatment modality has improved her condition and saved her life without adding more sufferings. She was very thankful to doctors and nurses of the hospital, and also to the set of translators assisting them. Also, she was grateful that God is also with her.

As the event came to an end, participants together with specialists and experts do believe that cancer is no longer as dreadful as it is. Now, certain cancer cases can be treated already. And soon in the future, we can defeat all types of cancer! We have to keep faith in God and trust Science development.

*Surgery, in addition to the appropriate chemotherapy and radiotherapy, are effective in treating early cancer, but certain patients in late stage of cancer may not be tolerate surgery well as they can be relatively weak. A combination of carefully planned minimally invasive therapy, chemotherapy or radiotherapy can effectively reduce the side effects and discomfort of treatment and may help patient get better efficacy.
