As Thailand’s most beautiful and romantic festival, Loy Krathong normally falls in November. At Loy Krathong’s night, on nearly every expanse of water, be it a river, lake or the ocean, you'll notice local Thais gathering to float their krathongs. Lights from hundreds of candles twinkle on the water and lovers’ shadows reflect in the water. Krathongs carrying prayers’ wishes float down rivers and streams and drift across the water like fairy dreams, gently flickering, dipping and dancing in the breeze as they go, making a spectacular sight.

This year’s Loy Krathong falls on November 5 to 7. To ease Thailand patients’ homesickness, Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou held a special “Krathong-Making” activity for them. On the morning of November 6, more than 20 Thailand patients and their families crafted Krathongs in the café bar. Krathongs are made of folded banana leaves, flowers, candles, sandalwood and other materials in intricate towering designs. The fantastic festival atmosphere cheers up the patients and their families up. A patient whose ward was on the fifth floor said: “When I celebrate the Loy Krathong in Thailand, I just buy Krathong from store, rarely make it by myself. It’s really interesting and happy to make Krathong by myself here.”

During this period, four Thailand patients and their families made beautiful Krathongs adorned with candles and flowers for the two-year-old Akhila, a patient from Indonesia, and prayed a soon recovery for her. They floated Krathongs on rivers, oceans or other bodies of water to let go of bad luck and bad feelings and welcome in good luck and happiness. Forging unforgettable Loy Krathong memories together as a family will be a meaningful and memorable highlight.

At three in the afternoon, patients and their families took a bus to the Centre Lake of Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center and released Krathongs into the water. They held Krathongs with candles and sandalwood lighted, prayed piously and silently in heart, and then took them down to the lake. 22 Krathongs floated to the middle of the Centre Lake. The festival was visually stunning and everyone who participates was in a cheerful and friendly mood, making it a truly memorable experience for them.

*Surgery, in addition to the appropriate chemotherapy and radiotherapy, are effective in treating early cancer, but certain patients in late stage of cancer may not be tolerate surgery well as they can be relatively weak. A combination of carefully planned minimally invasive therapy, chemotherapy or radiotherapy can effectively reduce the side effects and discomfort of treatment and may help patient get better efficacy.
