A health forum on Cancer Prevention was held last June 23, 2013 Sunday at Royal Sharksfin Seafood Restaurant 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm inviting the Chinese Filipino Leaders and Businessman, as well as other participants from the Chinese-Filipino Society. It was a seminar to disseminate new information and preventive measures for cancer ailment organized by the respectable Mr. Mariano Ong, President of Filipino-Chinese Shinlian Association, together with their respective members who are devoted into working for the public good of the community. This event is also supported by its Alliance, Bo Ai Medical Investment Group, the largest medical investment group in China, as well as the Top 100 Largest Medical Investment Group Worldwide.

Dr. Peng Xiaochi, the invited speaker, is the Director of Oncology Department of Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, who has pursued further education in Canada and published more than 20 medical papers in international journals, and has bountiful clinical experience in handling cancer cases.

He shared to us three levels of prevention for cancer. The First Level of Prevention includes keeping away from the carcinogenic elements. This would mean taking preventive measures such as “No Smoking”, “No excessive drinking”, “Vegetarian Diet”, “Exercise Regularly”, “Keep Fit”, etc. The Second Level Prevention includes the “Three E’s”: Early Detection, Early Diagnosis, and Early Treatment. And the Third Level Prevention refers to choosing the compatible treatment modality for the patient. These would include the thirteen advance minimally invasive treatment techniques offered by Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou in addition to the conventional treatment.

Audience is very supportive in participating on the said event. They all agreed in the saying “Preventive is Better than Cure”. As Congresswoman Naida Angpin mentioned, “though there are many government warnings preventing us from unhealthy lifestyle, it is personal discipline that matters most.”

Lastly, Dr. Peng left a message saying “Build health not wealth! Maintain a healthy lifestyle then cancer will no longer be incurable.”

*Surgery, in addition to the appropriate chemotherapy and radiotherapy, are effective in treating early cancer, but certain patients in late stage of cancer may not be tolerate surgery well as they can be relatively weak. A combination of carefully planned minimally invasive therapy, chemotherapy or radiotherapy can effectively reduce the side effects and discomfort of treatment and may help patient get better efficacy.
