Three “3”s to prevent colon cancer

Unhealthy dietary and life habits, like rich and delicate food, lack of exercise, bring to people’s intestinal tract heavy burden of obstruction. Most seriously, it can cause colon cancer. Here, experts from Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou are introducing the three “3”s in our daily life to help us prevent colon cancer.

Prevent cancer

To do intestinal examination once a year after 30 years old

The best way to resist cancer is to prevent it. It is very necessary to do colon cancer screen yearly after 30 years old, especially for people in high risk, including the obese, those who take in too much protein, calories but less fiber, people with family history of colon cancer and those who have personal or family history of colon polyp.

Once change of defecation habit or stool shape happens, for example, bloody stools (especially when the blood is mixed with stools), constipation or diarrhea occur, one should go to hospital for examination timely. Examinations of colon cancer include fecal occult blood test (FOBT), digital rectum examination and enteroscopy.

3 types of vegetable and fruits rich in fiber

Most colon cancer patients have unhealthy dietary structure, which consists of high protein, calories but low fiber. They eat delicate food, which can easily result in constipation. When stools remains in the intestine for a long time, the toxin within will be absorbed by the intestine and cause lesions. Therefore, to prevent colon cancer, we should reduce the intake of delicate food and eat more food that contains rich fiber. Moreover, we should establish a habit of eating at least 3 types of high-fiber vegetable and fruit every day, such as celery, broccoli, leek, sweet potato, corn and apple.

  30 minutes’ exercise every day

The incidence of colon cancer rises very fast among white-collars. Sitting for too long and lacking of exercise have much to do with this, for they slow down the intestinal movement and thus raises the risk of colon cancer.

Study has proved that frequent exercise can effectively reduce the risk of colon cancer. 30 minutes’ exercise daily can reduce one third of the risk of intestinal polyps, which can easily become cancerous. Experts from Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou suggest that people should do at least 30 minutes’ exercise daily. The exercise should be moderate-intensity and better can cause a little pant afterwards, brisk walking for example.
