Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma

Lymphoma is one of the top ten common cancers in the Philippines, among Filipino adults, incidence rate rises steeply starting at age 50 among males and at age 55 among females. Lymphoma, also called lymphatic cancer, has two main categories:Hodgkin's lymphomas (HL) and Non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHL). About 90% of lymphomas are Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

As the most common type of lymphoma. Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is more complex and variable than Hodgkin's lymphoma. In terms of pathological features, there are currently more than 20 kinds of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, which are mainly divided into three categories: B-cell lymphoma, T-cell lymphoma and NK/T-cell lymphoma; especially diffuse large B-cells. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and follicular lymphoma are the most common, while NK/T-cell lymphoma is rare.

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma usually occurs in lymph glands, and also in tissues other than the lymphatic system, such as the tonsils, gastrointestinal tract, nasal cavity, nasopharynx, skin, bone marrow, and central nervous system. Therefore, there are "nodal" and "extra-nodal" lymphomas. Accurate pathological classification is very important for assessing the development of the disease and formulating treatment plans.

Treatment for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma

St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou has introduced new technologies to help patients fight with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and improve survival rate effectively.

Interventional therapy: with a 1-2 millimeter incision, anti-cancer drugs are directly given to the tumor, causing fewer side effects and drug concentration is 2-8 times higher than systemic chemotherapy, killing cancer cells more accurately.

Particle implantation: Implanted particles will keep emitting y-ray within the tumor, targeting to the cancer cells accurately; the radiation of seeds to tumor last for 180 days, high accuracy, millimeter minimally invasive; few toxic side effects and complications.

*Surgery, in addition to the appropriate chemotherapy and radiotherapy, are effective in treating early cancer, but certain patients in late stage of cancer may not be tolerate surgery well as they can be relatively weak. A combination of carefully planned minimally invasive therapy, chemotherapy or radiotherapy can effectively reduce the side effects and discomfort of treatment and may help patient get better efficacy.
