Proper Diets Are Beneficial for Colon Cancer Prevention

  Data shows that about 40% of cancer patients are caused by improper diets, including colon cancer. The salient features of improper diets are excessive intake of calories, animal fat and cholesterol, and deficiency of dietary fiber and vitamin; meanwhile it is usually companied with insufficient amount of exercise.

  The first category of recommendations on diet for colon cancer patients

  Animal fat: studies have shown that diets of high animal fat are the high risk factor leading to colon cancer. The reason may include: (1) the more you take animal fat, the higher the risk for dissolving and absorbing more carcinogenic substances is. (2) high-fat diets would increase the secretion of bile acids in the intestinal tract, and the bile acids have potential irritation and damage to the intestinal mucosa, and long-term irritation and damage may trigger the generation of tumor cells and lead to colon cancer.

  1. Eat less or don’t eat foods rich in saturated fat and cholesterol, including lard, butter, chicken fat, suet, fat meat, palm oil, coconut oil, etc.

  2. The daily intake of vegetable oil (peanut oil, soybean oil, sesame oil, etc.) shall be limited among 20-30 grams (about 2-3 soup spoons).

  3. Do not eat or eat less fried foods.

  4. Moderately consume foods that containing monounsaturated fatty acids, such as olive oil, tuna, etc.

  2. Eat more foods that are rich in dietary fiber, such as, konjac, soy and fresh vegetables, fruits, algae, etc.

  3. Under the premise of maintaining the same amount intake of staple food, use partial coarse grains to instead refined grains.

  The third category of recommendation on diets for colon cancer patients:

  The roles of vitamins as well as of trace elements cannot be discounted. Scientific research shows that: vitamin A, beta-carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, and trace element-- selenium have a potential role in preventing cancer.

  1. Eat more vegetables and fruits to supplement carotene and vitamin C.

  2. Moderately eat some walnuts, peanuts, dairy products, etc. to supplement vitamin E.

  3. Pay attention to the intake of wheat germ, fish, mushrooms and other foods rich in trace element selenium.
